The US electric auto giant has cut prices across run-out stock of the outgoing Model Y – by up to $8000 – ahead of an updated model due in May.
Prices of pre-update Tesla Model Y stock have been discounted by up to $8000 ahead of an updated version of the electric SUV due in the coming months.
The Tesla Australia website lists new 2024 and 2025-plate Model Y stock with discounts before on-road costs of $4000 on the Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD), and $7000 off the Long Range All-Wheel Drive (AWD).
The top-spec Performance receives an $8000 cut – before stamp duty is calculated and applied – to clear out remaining stock ahead of the facelifted version arriving from May 2025.
The reductions in the drive-away price will be slightly greater as the discounts apply before on-road costs, so the lower RRPs will incur less stamp duty.
In Victoria, the most affordable Model Y RWD in stock is listed for $59,900.
That price excludes on-road costs such as stamp duty and registration, but includes the mandatory $1400 delivery and $400 order fees – as well as options such as $2300 Stealth Grey exterior paint, $2400 20-inch Induction wheels, and a $1500 black and white interior.
The cheapest Model Y RWD in the country is an un-optioned white example in Western Australia priced from $53,700 – calculated from the Model Y's $55,900 RRP, plus the $400 order and $1400 delivery fees, but with $4000 subtracted.
Prices of the Model Y Long Range AWD start from $68,600 in Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, and Tasmania, optioned with a $1500 black or blue premium paint and $2400 20-inch wheels.
Meanwhile, the cheapest example of the range-topping Model Y Performance AWD can be had for $80,800 including order and delivery fees but before on-roads in South Australia, Tasmania and Victoria, with $2600 Ultra Red paint, and a $1500 black and white interior.
The discounts are available until 31 March 2025, and while stocks last – with vehicle availability subject to change depending on the state or territory of registration.
The run-out offers follow permanent cuts to the RRPs of the Model 3 and Model Y rolled out by the US electric auto giant in 2024 of up to $9500.
Due in May, the updated Tesla Model Y will be initially available as part of a ‘Launch Series’, which sees the Rear-Wheel Drive and Long Range AWD variants receive price hikes of $7500 and $3500 respectively.
Prices start from $63,400 plus on-road costs for the RWD, and $73,400 for the Long Range AWD. With order and delivery fees added – but other on-road costs excluded – their starting prices are $65,200 and $75,200 respectively.
