Renault Australia has rolled out a new flagship variant of its Koleos family SUV, dubbed Techno, that it hopes will stimulate interest in its ageing model.

The second-generation Koleos is one of Australia’s oldest models, having launched in 2016 with the same 126kW/226Nm 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine it has to this day.

The first 2025 Koleos arrived last month, with the base Evolution introduced from $34,990 before on-road costs – or now available at $36,990 drive-away for a limited time.

Joining the entry-level variant is the top-spec Techno, available in 4x2 and 4x4 forms priced from $39,990 before on-road costs and $42,490 respectively.

The 2025 Renault Koleos Evolution.

As standard, the Evolution features LED exterior lighting, a 7.0-inch driver display, keyless entry and start, automatic headlights, auto-folding door mirrors, power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, black leather interior, dual-zone climate control, heated and cooled front cupholders, and 18-inch wheels.

Handling multimedia is an 8.7-inch portrait-oriented infotainment touchscreen with satellite navigation, digital radio, and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity.

The Techno grade gains an electronically adjustable front passenger seat, cooled front seats, Nappa leather interior, panoramic sunroof, woodgrain interior details, and 19-inch alloy wheels, while the 4x4 adds hill descent control.

Curiously, the Evolution has a 12-volt socket in the front, rear, and boot, but the Techno only has an outlet in the front and boot.

All three variants are powered by the aforementioned 2.5-litre petrol engine, which is paired to a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

The Koleos competes in the cut-throat mid-size SUV segment, with only 424 units sold (-29.5%) in the first six months of the year – albeit at least partially due to a model-year changeover.
