The recently-updated GWM Haval H6 family SUV has gained two new variants in Australia: an all-wheel-drive Ultra Hybrid and a more-affordable Lux plug-in hybrid.

GWM will launch two additional hybrid versions of its Haval H6 family SUV in Australia in the coming months, it has been confirmed.
Expected to officially go on sale in September, the 2026 GWM Haval H6 Ultra Hybrid AWD marks the first time a non-plug-in GWM petrol-electric hybrid vehicle has been offered with all-wheel drive in Australia.
The front-drive Lux PHEV is priced from $44,990 drive-away, $3000 less than the equivalent Ultra PHEV, while the Haval H6 Ultra Hybrid AWD retails for $47,490, $3500 more than the Ultra Hybrid FWD.
Compared to the front-wheel-drive H6 Hybrid, the all-wheel-drive hybrid has an 80kW front electric motor and a 150kW rear electric motor for a 268kW combined power output, equivalent to the all-wheel-drive H6 plug-in hybrid.
The front-wheel-drive H6 Hybrid instead has a 179kW combined power output, with a 150kW front electric motor and no rear electric motor.
There are no changes to its 110kW/240Nm 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, while its power-to-weight ratio is listed at 149kW per tonne – 43kW/t more than the FWD version, and more than the PHEV AWD with the same power but a larger, heavier battery pack.
The PHEV AWD has a claimed 0-100km/h acceleration time of 4.8 seconds with launch control, with the non-plug-in hybrid version potentially capable of matching or exceeding this time.
Combined fuel consumption for the GWM Haval H6 Ultra Hybrid AWD is rated at 5.4L/100km, 0.2L/100km more than the front-wheel drive model.
Meanwhile, the GWM Haval H6 Lux PHEV FWD features the same plug-in hybrid system as its Ultra equivalent, but some standard equipment has been removed for $3000 less, in line with its petrol-only and non-plug-in hybrid equivalents.
Compared to the H6 Ultra PHEV, deleted features include a panoramic sunroof, 'leather-accented' upholstery, a nine-speaker audio system, a heated steering wheel, heated and ventilated front seats, a head-up display, front parking sensors and rear privacy glass.
The updated 2026 GWM Haval H6 launched in Australia in July with a higher entry price following the axing of the base Premium, but price cuts for the Lux and Ultra variants, along with the addition of plug-in hybrid technology.
Revisions include new front and rear styling, a larger 14.5-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, more prominent rear GWM badging, black exterior trim, 19-inch alloy wheels, and a revised colour palette.
The H6 plug-in hybrid features a 19.09kWh lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery, rated with an electric-only driving range of 106 kilometres in NEDC lab testing for the front-wheel drive, with a fuel use of 1.0L/100km.
All-wheel-drive H6 PHEVs are rated with a 100km electric-only driving range and a fuel use of 1.1L/100km.
