2024 Toyota Prado and Lexus GX recalled in Australia

Toyota and Lexus have recalled 552 examples of its 2024 Prado and GX off-road SUVs, citing a potential fault with an accessory fitment that could lead to a misdepolyment of an airbag, resulting in a risk of injury or death.

The affected vehicles are stamped 2024 models, but may have been sold at a later date.

The recall notices (Toyota and Lexus), lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, says: "Due to an error in the fitting instructions for the optional accessory Electric Brake Controller, the Lower Driver’s Airbag Assembly (removed during accessory fitment) may have been reinstalled using the incorrect torque. As a result, the lower driver’s airbag may not deploy as intended."

A full list of vehicle identification numbers (VIN) for the 552 vehicles involved in the recall can be found here for Toyota and here for Lexus.

Toyota and Lexus advise that affected customers will be contacted by each respective brand, and that remedial work will be carried out at a dealer free of charge.

Owners can also contact Toyota or Lexus directly, with Prado owners able to reach out to the Toyota Recall Assist helpline (1800 987 366) and GX customers to the Lexus Customer Assistance Centre (1800 023 009).
