McLaren driver Lando Norris won the 2025 F1 Australian Grand Prix which saw a record crowd across four days at Albert Park in Melbourne.

A record 465,498 fans soaked up the atmosphere – and race day rain – across the four days of the revamped and upgraded venue for this year’s event.

It breaks the previous benchmark set in 2024 when 452,055 spectators were trackside across four days and makes it a record crowd three years in a row.

Race day itself – which saw heartbreak for both hometown hero Oscar Piastri and fellow Australian Jack Doohan – saw 131,547 fans brave the wild and unpredictable weather as Norris held off a threatening Max Verstappen to win.

Helping ticket holders were revamped precincts with fan-focus on details such as more shade for both the 30-degrees plus warm weather on Saturday as well as the cold and changeable conditions on Sunday.

Impressively, the single biggest increase across all four days was on the opening Thursday, where V8 Supercars were on track but F1 did not run – with a new record of 72,056 up around 7000.

A Friday record saw 125,548 watch on as this year’s F1 cars hit the Albert Park circuit for the first time.

The 2025 race saw Australia return to its previous slot as season-opener on the F1 calendar for the first time in six years, bringing added anticipation of new cars and team driver changes.

The most significant of those was seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton’s move to Ferrari, making Albert Park his first race with the team.

The growth in the popularity of Formula 1 has seen the organisers of the event – the Australian Grand Prix Corporation (AGPC) – increase crowd capacity for the Melbourne venue in recent years.

This included a new grandstand at Turn 6 for 2025 following changes to the track layout at the same corner, with the gravel at the edge of the turn still claiming multiple drivers, with even Piastri and race-winner Norris flicking up stones during the grand prix.

Even bigger changes were made ahead of the 2022 race when new grandstands were added at turns 5, 8 (where two new grandstands were built), 11 and 12.

With race day selling out quickly the past two years, fans are encouraged to register their interest for the 2026 Australian F1 Grand Prix, and while dates are yet to be officially confirmed it will be the season opener once again.
