BYD's first high-volume model in Australia has been given a makeover overseas, with a new look and more conventionally-styled interior.

The 2025 BYD Atto 3 has received its most comprehensive update since its launch in China more than three years ago – and in Australia two and a half years ago.
The facelifted Atto 3 revealed in BYD's home market introduces an updated exterior design, and an overhauled interior that is more conventionally styled.
Australian arrival plans are yet to be confirmed. A BYD Australia representative told Drive that "for products released in China, it can take anywhere from 12 to 24 months to develop a right-hand drive option before they become available locally."
New for the 2025 Atto 3 in China – where it is sold as the Yuan Plus – are restyled front and rear bumpers with more angular air intakes, and a new 'Chinese knot' LED tail-light signature.
The rear window pillar shape has been tweaked for a different look, plus fresh 17- and 18-inch wheel designs, reshaped side skirts and rear spoiler, and a new beige exterior colour.
Inside, there is a larger digital instrument cluster – likely a 10.25-inch display – now mounted to the dashboard, rather than the 5.0-inch screen fixed to the old model's steering column.
In a move to a more conventional interior design, the muscle-inspired pattern on the lower dashboard has been removed, but the SUV's signature guitar strings on the door pockets have been retained.
The gear shifter has moved to a steering column stalk, requiring a centre console redesign with a prominent 50-watt wireless phone charger, space for a second phone, two cupholders, and new-design buttons.
Other changes include a new steering wheel, restyled front-centre armrest, and new front seats in Chinese models with adjustable headrests, replacing the sports seats with a single-piece backrest of the outgoing Atto 3.
Technical specifications are reportedly unchanged for the 2025 version, meaning a choice of 49.9kWh or 60.5kWh battery packs and a 150kW/310Nm electric motor on the front axle.
Pricing for the 2025 BYD Atto 3 in China is yet to be confirmed, but reports indicate it is due to go on sale in the coming weeks as the first examples have arrived at dealers overseas.
