Honda Civic Hybrid buyer’s guide

The Honda Civic was awarded the Best Urban Car under $50K for its spacious cabin, sophisticated hybrid drivetrain, and low-cost servicing.

The Honda Civic received a mid-model refresh at the end of 2024. Along with styling tweaks, and additional tech, there were also adjustments made to the line-up.

The base petrol model was retired, with the new Civic e:HEV L hybrid filling the spot, while the e:HEV LX variant available previously carried on. The Civic Type R performance variant is also still available.

Like what you see? Here's everything you need to know to buy the Honda Civic that is right for you!

How much is the Honda Civic?

There are two variants of the Honda Civic. The range starts at $49,990 drive-away for the e:HEV L hybrid.

The e:HEV L hybrid comes with a 9.0-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto combined with a 10.25-inch instrument cluster, four USB-C charge ports, front and rear parking sensors, a heated steering wheel and a 12-speaker Bose audio system.

While it's the only eligible grade for the $50K category, the higher-spec LX hybrid is only a smidge more, starting from $55,990 drive-away, which adds things like a wireless phone charger, panoramic sunroof, and black leather-appointed seats.

The Civic is backed by Honda’s five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty, with an eight-year warranty on the battery and five years of premium roadside assistance.

What colours is it available in?

The Honda Civic is available in four colours: Premium Crystal Red, Seabed Blue (limited number for L grade only), Platinum White and Sonic Grey (LX only).

All colours are offered as a no-cost option on both variants.

What variant of the Honda Civic do we recommend?

Although just one variant meets the price criteria – the e:HEV L – the Drive judges liked the Civic in its entry-level specification as it comes well equipped with an extensive range of features and technology.

Judges were also impressed by the Civic's low 4.9L/100km fuel consumption figure because it is easily achievable in the real world, even coming out lower in testing than what Honda itself claims.

That, coupled with very low price servicing at $199 annually over the first five years, and Honda is onto a winner here.

We'd opt for the Crystal Red Pearlescent paint, which is a $0 option, and add the $210 Essentials Pack ($840 fitted), which comes with carpet floor mats, a luggage area protector tray, a weather-shield set in chrome, mud guards and a rear bumper and boot-lip protector.

What is the best deal on a Honda Civic?

There are currently 85 Honda dealerships around Australia.

Stock levels are good and with new examples of the updated Civic arriving regularly, any wait times should be minimal. If you're after a specific grade or colour it may take up to three months.

Honda is currently offering finance (until March 31) on all of its hybrid models at an interest rate of 3.88 per cent for 36 months and balloon payment options of up to 45 per cent, with a 5.22 per cent comparison rate based on a $30,000, five-year secured consumer fixed loan.

Finance offers depend on your circumstances, so always ensure you contact a financial planner before making any finance-based purchases.
